The Insider’s guide to the Best Vegan Restaurants in Ubud.

Looking for the best vegan restaurants in Ubud? The cultural capital of Bali has become one of the go to destinations for vegan dining in the world. Whether it is fine dining restaurants or casual cafes, there is plenty to choose from. But which ones truly stand out? This list highlights my personal favourites: restaurants and cafés renowned for their exceptional vegan fare. They’re so good that even devoted meat-eaters should make time to try them when visiting this vibrant town.

This list is divided into three categories: fine dining, upscale restaurants, and casual cafés. While not all of them offer exclusively vegan menus, each features standout vegan dishes that I personally love. From the best cafés to the hottest bars and must-visit restaurants, this is the ultimate guide for the quintessential foodie.

Best for Fine Dining

Herbivore – plant based degustation.

Why do we love it?

Herbivore opened its doors a couple years ago and is shaking things up in the vegan world. The plant based sibling of Locavore NXT, it features hyperlocal ingredients and pairs them with innovative techniques through a multicourse tasting menu. What also stands out in Herbivore is their absolute must try drinks program where most of the beverages blend traditional balinese techniques and modern takes on fermentation.

What to order?

They serve a tasting menu and while you might or might not become a regular, it is a restaurant that all plant based foodies must try. The menu changes seasonally so you are in store for some surprises if you visit again.

Exoerience plant based degustation like never before.

Restaurants with a vegan menu.

2 Bulan – a vegan’s pick for all things Thai

Why do we love it?

We’ve all craved Thai food, only to discover that even the “vegetarian” dishes often use shrimp paste in their curries and stir-fries. At 2 Bulan, a recently opened gem in Nyuh Kuning, you will satisfy all your vegan Thai cravings. Their noodles are made fresh from scratch, and their homemade curry pastes swap shrimp paste for miso—perfect for anyone who loves a truly vegan Thai curry. Pairing those regional flavours with their natural & vegan wine list offers plenty of tempting pairings.

What to order?

No trip to a thai restaurant is complete without the Som Tam Salad and theirs is one of the best out there. For a more hearty affair, order the vegan green curry or the vegan yellow curry that is served with jasmine rice. For a more fiery experience, the Pad Pak or stir fried vegetables is a must have. Oh and the mango sticky rice panna cotta is mandatory. 2 Bulan is definitely one of the best Thai restaurants in Bali.

2 Bulan is one of the few restaurants serving an amazing list of vegan wines.

Galle Club – bold vegan flavours from Sri Lanka.

Why do we love it?

Let me be clear and say that Galle Club is not fully vegan. But if you are craving hearty vegan dishes that pack a punch, this Sri Lankan restaurant is a must visit.  Sri Lankan cuisine, unlike North Indian cuisine does not use dairy in their cooking which means you are spoilt for choice. The charming 36 seater blends the bygone colonial era with Bali tropical  and will transport you straight to a living room of someone’s home in the Galle Fort.

What to Order?

If you are dining solo, I highly recommend the Masala Uttapam or the Vegan Kothu from their lunch menu. But if you are going in a group, then the dinner menu stands out with the Grilled Cabbage, Roast Pumpkin Curry, Railway Cutlets and Dal Parippu. They have an exceptional cocktail list (my favourite is Ceylon) or 10 wines by glass to choose from.

Galle Club is easily the Best Sri Lankan & Coastal Indian restaurant in Bali

Best Vegan Cafes in Ubud

Alchemy – the OG vegan cafe

Why do we love it?

One can safely say that Alchemy started and is still spearheading the vegan movement in Bali (and most definitely in Ubud). What started as a small corner shop serving chocolates has expanded itself into an institution serving a broad menu of vegan and raw dishes. In addition to feeding you, they are also educating foodies about plant based dining through their Alchemy Academy. Is this the best vegan cafe in Ubud – absolutely!

What to order?

My favourite picks at Alchemy are the things they started with all those years ago. The dessert and sweet selection is diverse with my favourite being the Chocolate Bomb and the Galaxy Bar. For less decadent or indulgent fare, the salad bar offers plenty of options to make your bowl while you work your way through the day.

The salad bar at Alchemy is a must try.

Muse – merging borders.

Why do I love it?

I love Muse for its laid-back pace, lush greenery, and relaxed atmosphere. But what keeps me coming back is the unique blend of cuisines—serving both plant-based and non-plant-based dishes. This all-day café offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, bringing together flavours from the Mediterranean and India on a single plate. Tucked away in a quieter part of Ubud, Muse is the perfect dining spot for when you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the town centre.

What to order?

The mezze platter and the Dosa platter (an indian crepe made from rice flour) are my must try. Their smoothies and juices are vegan and they use very good produce. The appetisers have something for everyone with my favourite being their chickpea fritters.

Muse has a diverse selection of vegan dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Sage – California meets Bali.

Why do we love it?

Glance through the Sage menu and you might think you are sitting at a California cafe post your Yoga class. They serve some really good vegan dishes for breakfast and lunch. Located at the edge of the charming Nyuh Kuning neighbourhood, this cafe has been around for almost a decade and consistently ranks as one of the best vegan cafes in Ubud.

What to order?

Our favourite breakfast dishes are the pancake with all the fruit and berries as well as their chickpea omelette called Naamlette. Wash these down with their green juice. The tempeh taco is a no-brainer for lunch and dinner. They also deliver within 2-3 km radius so if you are too lazy to go there, just ring them for a delivery.

Sage is another hidden gem in the upcoming Nyuh Kuning area.

Tucky – the best avocado toast in Ubud?

Why do I love it?

Many spots in Ubud serve great food but not great coffee, and others brew amazing coffee but not the most amazing food. Thankfully, Tucky offers both. Mind you they do not have a lot of vegan options. In fact they only have 4 dishes that are vegan. But they are definitely worth it! This 22 seater is located in the charming walking street of Jalan Goutama and is ideal for a cuppa while people-watching. But I would say the real attention grabber are not the people walking by but their vegan avocado toast. Think crisp sourdough, avocado marinated in a pesto and a mint chutney, garnished with  za’atar coated olives & sundried tomatoes. Tucky is air conditioned, lets people work on their laptops (I have been sitting here writing this and on my second coffee – an oat milk white brew if you are wondering) and boasts a staff that is attentive and friendly.

What to Order?

Did I mention the avocado toast? For a sweeter craving, try their homemade peanut butter on sourdough that is served with pickled mulberries, strawberries, mint and Dukkah.Tucky does an incredible coffee list. They use a single estate bean from Brazil and have options of Oat and Almond Milk. The must try is Oat Milk Latte and the White Brew. Definitely one of the best places for coffee in Ubud.

Don’t forget to pair these dishes with their specialty coffee.

Yellow Flower Warung – Sunday vegan buffet

Why do I love it?

Wander through the charming alleys of Penestanan in Ubud, and you’ll likely stumble upon Yellow Flower—or hear someone singing its praises. This beloved warung (Indonesian café) has long been one of Ubud’s most popular local eateries, a place where locals and expats gather over good food and easy conversation. With its warm hospitality and all-women team, stepping into Yellow Flower feels like walking into your favourite aunt’s home.

What to order?

My favourite breakfast dish is a simple toast with peanut butter and jam here. The bread is yellow (i think turmeric) but just stands out for its texture and flavour. The must try at Yellow Flower is the sunday dinner buffet with a looooong list of vegan balinese delicacies.

You must not miss the Sunday buffet if you are in Ubud for the weekend.
