As always, the list is not ranked but written alphabetically. Just some raw and honest opinions of a foodie who ate his way around Ubud and eventually ended up opening a restaurant of his own.
Biah Biah – Best Balinese Warung
Why do we love it?
Walk along the charming walking street of Jalan Goutama and you can’t help but notice Biah Biah. Rustic hole-in-the-wall decor, wooden chairs and tables strewn everywhere and always a queue of people waiting to get their chance to try some of the best homestyle Balinese food on the island. If you can, find the seats facing streets, grab a Bintang and just enjoy the varied dishes from their menu. This warung has been around for ages and is a must try for looking to taste the culture and heritage of Bali.
What to order?
The Mie goreng is a standout main but we will also recommend pairing it with a bunch of their small dishes. The Nasi Campur is another highly sought after dish here and both pair well with a chilled Bintang or one of their balinese mocktails.
Average spend per person: IDR 80.000 ++
Location: Jl. Goutama Sel. No.13, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571

Biah Biah is the ultimate warung experience in Ubud.
2 Bulan – Best Thai Restaurant
Why do we love it?
No place in Bali or Ubud captures the urban energy of Bangkok and blends it with the mood and food of the Thai countryside like 2 Bulan. This newly opened Thai restaurant is already making waves for serving regional Thai flavours that do not succumb to cliched tourist preferences. The curry pastes and noodles are made from scratch and you will find yourself ordering dishes that traditional as well as innovative. The natural wine list is edgy, fun and goes surprisingly well with the Thai flavours. So much so that it is fast becoming the go to spot for wines in Ubud.
What to Order?
The must try appetisers are the refreshing Som Tam salad and the tart Thai Ceviche. For the mains you can go the traditional route with their green curry or pick a more modern Wagyu Ribeye with Massaman curried butter. Either way, the Beef Pad Kee Mao noodles are non-negotiable and the Mango sticky rice panna cotta mandatory
Average Spend per person: IDR 250.000 ++
Location: Jl. Nyuh Bulan, Mas, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571

2 Bulan blends traditional Thai techniques with modern interpretations.
Double Dragon Temple – Dumplings & Noodles Heaven.
Why do we love it?
Enter Double Dragon Temple and you might have to take a minute to check with yourself if you are in the calm oasis of Ubud or the urban chaotic hawker centre of Singapore. These guys are infamous for serving a small (on paper) but huge (on flavour) menu that includes bao buns, dumplings and noodles. Inspired by flavours and techniques from Singapore and Malaysia, this place is East Asia on a plate! And if there is a queue, we highly recommend getting one of their cold brews from Neuf Day for one of the best coffees in Ubud.
What to Order?
Start with the Pork Dumplings and then move to the sesame flat noodles and the scallion noodles with pork and chicken. And if there is room for more, go for any of the equally delicious Bao buns. Wash it all down with a crisp beer or their sodas. And if you have a sweet craving, pop in next door to their coffee shop for a delicious affogato.
Average Spend per person: IDR 120.000 ++
Location: Jl. Monkey Forest, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571

Your go to spot for dumplings and beers.
Galle Club – Sri Lankan and Coastal Indian
Why do we love it?
Talking about transportive spaces, Galle Club takes you straight to the periodic charm of a bygone Sri Lankan era. Inspired by their love for the other tropical paradise, the creators of 2 Bulan launched Galle Club to showcase the vibrant and diverse flavours of Sri Lanka and Southern Coast of India. The menu serves regional dishes that are meant to be shared and are complimented by an ingredient led cocktail list that is a tropical delight. Sophisticated decor, thoughtful service and satiating meals – this has got to be one of the best Indian restaurants in Ubud.
What to order?
Start with the Hot Butter Halloumi and the Beef Short Rib Chukka. If you are a seafood lover, then go for Prawn Pepper Fry. Pair these with the Ceylon or an Annasi for a cocktail. Move to any of the curries but no matter what, you must try the Chicken Buriani. Chocolate Biscuit Pudding is our dessert of choice but we don’t mind if you go for the Pandan Brulee.
Average Spend per person: IDR 300.00 ++
Location: Jl. Nyuh Gading No.2, Mas, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 8057

Bold flavours, generous portions, great wine list.
Mori – Japanese Teppanyaki
Why do we love it?
Mori finds the perfect balance between the spotlight on food & flair that is so often missing in Teppanyaki restaurants. This 10 seater restaurant is located in the far corner of the Bisma Eight hotel and the low ceiling, dark walled, kitchen counter dining experience entraps you in a way that you do not feel the presence of the buzz of all the guests sitting next to you. The menu is a straight forward teppanyaki tasting sage with an option to select between seafood and steaks. The Bisma Eight guys have been in the restaurant business for almost a decade now and Mori definitely is their crown jewel.
What to order?
We went for the set menu with the steak and while no doubt the meat was tender and flavourful as expected, it was the produce of the other dishes that was the statement piece of the experience. The vegetables are grown in the farm of one of the owners and you can see the care that has gone into the produce. Definitely do not forget about the sake.
Average Spend per person: Tasting Menu starts from IDR 1.500.000
Location: Jl. Bisma No.68, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571

The best Japanese restaurant in Ubud.
Nusantara – Award winning Indonesian Cuisine
Why do we love it?
Any concept from the Locavore Group is pretty much a must try. And when you are in Bali and want to experience the best of Indonesia, then Nusantara is where you must book a table. The pan Indonesian focus of the menu means that you have the entire archipelago to choose from and savour the depth and diversity of the local cuisine that goes beyond the nasi campur and mie goreng. It is rooted in tradition and forward thinking at the same time in creating a sophisticated Indonesian dining experience. Nusantara is one of the best restaurants in Ubud.
What to order?
The menu changes every 6 months but there are some favourites that have been a mainstay. The beef tongue appetiser and the moringa soup are the favourites to start with followed by the lamb curry and a range of their vegetable side dishes. You must try the Peyem for dessert and the Beras Kencur for a mocktail.
Average Spend per person: IDR 400.000 ++
Location: Jl. Dewisita No.09C, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571

One of the best restaurants in Ubud.
Ramu Kitchen – Pan Asian
Why do we love it?
If you are in a group and everyone has different cravings, then Ramu Kitchen at the Titik Dua hotel hits all the notes. The pan-Asian menu is rooted in local ingredients with flavours from Indonesia and its culinary neighbours. The restaurant is located on the top floor of the boutique hotel and we would suggest getting here a bit early to check out the art gallery that hosts exhibitions and events supporting the local artists.
What to order?
Start with the Tuna Sashimi and the Chilli Crab dumplings before diving into their salads and curries. The cocktail list is inventive and fun but you will also find them familiar in flavours. There are live music events every now and then so definitely check with them before bookings if you want to dine in with a bit more bustle.
Average Spend per person: IDR 500.000 ++
Location: Jl. Cok Rai Pudak No.48, Peliatan, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571

There is something for everyone at Ramu Kitchen.
Yellow Flower Cafe – East meets West Cafe
Why do we love it?
Wander through the charming alleys of Penestanan in Ubud, and you’ll likely stumble upon Yellow Flower—or hear someone singing its praises. This beloved warung (Indonesian café) has long been one of Ubud’s most popular local eateries, a place where locals and expats gather over good food and easy conversation. With its warm hospitality and all-women team, stepping into Yellow Flower feels like walking into your favourite aunt’s home.
What to order?
Our favourite breakfast dish is a simple toast with peanut butter and jam here. The bread is yellow (turmeric) but just stands out for its texture and flavour. The must try at Yellow Flower is the sunday dinner buffet with a looooong list of vegan balinese delicacies.
Average Spend per person: IDR 150.000 ++
Location: Jl. Raya Campuhan, Sayan, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571

Must try their Sunday Buffet.
